Arts Council England in association with Metro introduced A Night Less Ordinary in February 2009. This scheme offers free theatre tickets to anyone under 26 for all sorts of theatre productions including comedy, musicals, dance, plays, circus and much more. The Wyvern Theatre has participated in this scheme for a year and is delighted to announce that Jonathan Wilkes was at the theatre on Monday 22 March to lend his support to the initiative.
Jonathan is most famously known for his musical theatre background. He has starred in We Will Rock You, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tommy, Guys and Dolls and The Wedding Singer. He also collaborated with his close friend Robbie Williams on his Swing When You’re Winning album along with his guest appearance at the Royal Albert Hall for Robbie’s live DVD. Jonathan is an ambassador for the arts, with his own Wilkes Academy in Swindon, there is no one more perfect to recommend theatre to young people. Jonny said “Im thrilled to be asked to support the Night less Ordinary Scheme at the Wyvern Theatre. The free theatre tickets for under 26’s scheme makes theatre more accessible to those who might not be able to attend the theatre and I hope that people will support the scheme and make the best use possible of free tickets” Derek Aldridge, Theatre Director said “I am extremely grateful to Jonathan in helping us highlight this scheme. He is one of this country’s most talented all-round performers and has a passion for live theatre. Theatre is for everyone and here at the Wyvern we are proud to be encouraging the audiences of tomorrow to see productions here in Swindon” To find out more about the scheme click here.
